PADM 640 - Food Security and Sustainability

Provides an introduction to the complexity of food production using a systems approach and sustainability concepts. Northern food systems and sustainability and subsistence lifestyles will be discussed as well as impacts of climate change, and determinants of food security. Case studies from Alaska and from the Circumpolar North will be used to highlight and focus specific emerging techniques of local food productions including the history of agriculture and fisheries.

Prerequisite: Admission to the M.P.A. Program or instructor's approval.
