FNGA 101 - Governance & Land Claims

Governance and Land Claims is designed to provide an overview of the road to self-government, the terms of various land claims and self-government agreements to which a First Nation is party and the challenges and opportunities facing a First Nation in their quest for effective governance. The course considers different forms of self-government and relationships between the First Nation and other governments in Canada. It examines how key cultural determinants have contributed to existing First Nation's governance and considers what elements might be built into the First Nation government to improve its effectiveness in today's context.
