EL 121 - Perspectives on Children’s Growth and Development

Considering the complex interconnectedness among human and all world relations, students are invited into an exploration of the phases of growth from prenatal through middle childhood. Through self-discovery, students reflect on current beliefs and values about child development and how these inform practice within pluralistic societal contexts. Critical analysis of development theories and how they have been applied assist student considerations of how relationships and pedagogical choices are made in practice. Through a process of inquiry, we consider how northern and global perspectives and stories can disrupt and deconstruct the Euro western normalizing discourse of development.
