BMGM CE20 - Let Us Talk About Race: An Introduction To Racism and Anti-racism

Racism and anti-racism are words we hear a lot in the news and media, but what do they really mean? Race is a complex topic that can be difficult and overwhelming to approach.

This workshop provides a broad overview of the different types of racism that BIPOC face daily in an engaging and accessible environment. You will gain a deeper understanding of what racism looks like and feels like in our society today, and how to become an effective race ally.

About the instructor

Carman Lam Brar (she/her) is a Chinese-Canadian mother of two and educator passionate about creating supportive spaces and engaging workshops to explore themes of race and racism. She has lived in the Yukon for the past 8 years after moving up from Vancouver where she received her degrees in Education and International Relations from UBC. She has spent her time in the Yukon teaching in the communities and in Whitehorse, and most recently working in a number of roles with Yukon Public Libraries. She is a skilled facilitator that can navigate tough conversations with tact and grace, and challenge individuals and organizations to meaningfully grow on their anti-racism journey.
