ArcticStat Circumpolar Database
Ayamdigut Link: http://www.arcticstat.org/
Community Campus Link: http://www.arcticstat.org/
Off Campus Link: http://www.arcticstat.org/

Description

ArcticStat is a permanent, public and independent statistical database dealing with the countries, regions and populations of the Circumpolar Arctic. It was born out of the desire to facilitate comparative research on the socioeconomic conditions of the peoples of the Arctic by bringing together already existing data which are dispersed and often hard to find.

For the most part, the data indexed in ArcticStat come from national statistical agencies of the countries of the Arctic or their regional offices. These data are made public, produced on a recurrent basis, and are methodologically valid. In some cases, tables using data provided by statistical agencies were produced by the ArcticStat editorial team.

ArcticStat was created by the Canada Research Chair on Comparative Aboriginal Condition of Université Laval. It is officially supported by the Arctic Council and it is an official activity of the International Polar Year. Most of the national statistical agencies, the list of which being provided in the links page, has agreed to cooperate with ArcticStat.

The core financial contribution was provided by the Canada Foundation for Innovation; additional financial contributions were provided by Louis-Edmond-Hamelin Chair for Northern Research in Social Sciences and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada.

ArcticStat is located at the Faculté des sciences sociales, Université Laval, Québec, Canada. Groupe DSI is responsible for the computer design.

EBMR (Evidence Based Medicine Reviews)

EBMR, a definitive resource in evidence based medicine, combines 4 of the most trusted EBM resources into one databases.

Includes the following databases:

  • Article Reviews

    • ACP Journal Club (full-text): (From 1991) The editors of ACP Journal Club screen the top clinical journals on a regular basis and identify studies that are both methodologically sound and clinically relevant. Enhanced abstracts of the chosen articles are then written, including commentaries on the applicability of these studies to clinical practice.
  • Definitive Controlled Trials

    • Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials: This bibliographic database of definitive controlled trials was created as part of an international effort to create an unbiased source of data for systematic reviews. It consists of over 350,000 bibliographic references to controlled trials in health care, and imposes quality control standards on included references to ensure that only reports of definite randomized controlled trials or controlled clinical trials are included.
    • Cochrane Methodology Register (CMR): Produced by the Cochrane group, CMR is a bibliography of more than 9,000 references to controlled trials in journal articles, book chapters, conference proceedings and reports, and other publications of methodologies used in health studies. Content is constantly being expanded upon via an extensive hand-searching program and the development of a series of search strategies in MEDLINE and EMBASE.
  • Interventions

    • Health Technology Assessments (HTA): Also produced by the CRD, in collaboration with Sweden's INAHTA Secretariat, HTA brings together details on ongoing studies of the medical, social, ethical and economic implications of healthcare interventions
    • NHS Economic Evaluation Database (NHSEED): Produced by the CRD, this database provides cost-benefit analyses about healthcare interventions, with more than 6000 abstracts of quality assessed economic evaluations.
