Use of Funds
The Research Services Office will provide funds to the successful applicant’s division to support the cost of a replacement instructor to cover one course, or similar responsibilities, normally undertaken by the applicant. Funds provided are based on the actual cost of the replacement's salary.
Any further costs associated with the research and scholarship activities will be the responsibility of the applicant and department. Applicants may wish to apply to the Faculty Research Fund or granting agencies to cover other costs.
All faculty members are eligible to apply for FRRT.
Although all proposals will be considered, priority will be given to scholarly activity focused on the following research and education priorities:
- Climate change, society and environment
- Indigenous self-determination and governance
- Sustainable resource development and innovation

Preference will be given to faculty teaching within degree programs, including university transfer programs and courses. Faculty will be granted at maximum one award per year.
All applications must be signed by the Dean/Director, the school Chair/Department Head, and one faculty colleague. Please provide evidence that the application has been discussed within the relevant school or division (i.e. meeting agenda or minutes, etc.). Faculty must allow adequate lead time for workload planning and the hiring of the replacement instructor so as to avoid disruptions in student learning.
Applicants applying in consecutive years are only eligible if the required final report(s) and commitments from the previous research and grant(s) have been submitted to and accepted by the Vice President, Research.
Research and Scholarship Compliance Requirements
If the proposal involves activities requiring compliance oversight, it is the responsibility of the applicant to obtain approval from the appropriate compliance Board(s) prior to the initiation of the research project.
If the proposal involves activities with First Nations, it is the responsibility of the applicant to abide by the Protocols and Principles for Conducting Research with Yukon First Nations and to obtain approvals for the initiation of the research project.
Allow sufficient time for the review and approval process as indicated by each process.

The FRRT Committee reviews all applications to the program. The Committee is comprised of:
- Vice President, Academic and Student Services
- Vice President, Research
- One member from the applicant's school or division
- One member from outside the applicant's school or division
Proposals are reviewed based on quality, clear concepts and research methods, and how well they align with Yukon College’s research and education priorities and strategic directions, including the Academic and Research Plans.
Proposals should be written in language appropriate for reviewers from a variety of disciplines, avoiding jargon and unexplained acronyms.
Faculty should clearly indicate the expected outcomes of the project. For example, a completed grant proposal, a completed paper for submission to a conference or journal, a research or scholarship project plan or implementation of a project.

Complete all sections of the application form and follow the submission instructions.
Submit the complete PDF document electronically with supporting documentation (signatures or other support required) to the Research Services Office by the deadline date.
Incomplete proposals or proposals NOT following the guidelines and format instructions will be disqualified.
The complete PDF document (including supporting documentation and all signatures), must be submitted electronically to the Research Services Office by 5:00 PM on the deadline date.
Final Report and Other Outcome Requirements
Award recipients are required to submit a final report at the end of the term for which funds were awarded.
This final report will be posted on the research webpage and will be archived such that future applicants and awardees will be able to access it as a source of reference. If there is a valid reason the final report should not be posted on the webpage, applicants must submit a justification to the Research Services Office (max.one page).
The final report should contain the following information:
- A header: including Proposal Title, Investigator, Department, Award Information (type of award, date of award, amount of award).
- A summary of the hypothesis or goals and the scholarly work/activities performed using the Faculty Research Release support.
- A summary of any additional scholarly activities the Faculty Research Release funding made possible for the Investigator.
- A summary of how and/or on what the Faculty Research Release funds were expended.
- A summary of all outcomes, based on the application.
Submit the final report electronically to the Review Committee through the Research Services Office. Please note that should the expected outcomes not occur, the recipient may be expected to repay the amount of the grant and may be ineligible for future course release grants.
Suspension or Termination of Grant
Yukon College reserves the right to suspend or terminate a grant should the applicant cease to meet the eligibility criteria, the accountability (i.e., achieving the proposed outcomes), or reporting requirements of the program. It also reserves the right to recover funds paid out if the applicant does not fulfill the required eligibility criteria or provides fraudulent or inaccurate information.
