About Graduation

About Graduation

All students are required to wear regalia in order to cross the stage at convocation. Graduation regalia traditionally consists of a cap and gown. Any form of traditional attire may be worn underneath the gown. You can pick yours up at the Student Services Centre on the day of the ceremony. Gowning will start at 8:30am. Please arrive on time.

Indigenous Students

In recognition of the Yukon College campuses located on First Nations’ lands, Indigenous Students are permitted to wear their traditional regalia. Indigenous regalia can be worn in place of, or with, Yukon College regalia.

Degree Program Students

If you are graduating from a degree program, you will be required to wear the ‘hood’ that acknowledges the academic degree you have just earned. This is placed over the academic gown, or can also be worn over top of your Indigenous regalia. In the academic tradition, the hood recognizes and celebrates your achievement.

Dress Code

We request that all graduates dress to reflect the dignity of Convocation. We encourage students to wear footwear appropriate for standing and walking safely. Very high heels can be hazardous on the stairs of the stage.

The cap (or mortarboard, as it is called) sits flat on your head, so keep your hairstyle simple.

Coat Check

There is no place to store your coats at convocation. It is recommended that you leave personal items in the College or with your family/guest.

Guests are welcome to attend the 2019 Convocation ceremony in the College Gymnasium. The ceremony will commence at 10:00am sharp.  No tickets are required. Guest seating in the Yukon College Gymnasium is available on a first come, first serve basis. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the ceremony.

Members of the audience are welcome to take pictures during the ceremony. You are also welcome to use a photo booth in the College Gymnasium.

Most graduates will receive their official credential on the day of Convocation.  If you are unable to attend, your credential can be picked up at the Admissions Office between June 4 and June 15, 2019.  Please remember to bring photo ID.  After June 15, credentials will be mailed to graduates at the address listed on their Application to Graduate.
