An exciting evolution is underway at Yukon College (YC) as it transitions to Canada’s first university in the North, leading through outstanding place-based education, northern-focused research and scholarship and focused on exemplary community engagement, with First Nation partners throughout Yukon. The transition which is expected to be completed by year end and will create Yukon University (YukonU), a flexible, post-secondary institution that includes a place and a pathway for every learner, including: adult basic education, skills and vocational training certificates and diplomas, plus degree and post-graduate programs.

With a $46 million operating budget, supported by 270 full-time and 310 part-time faculty and staff, Yukon College is a major contributor to the economic and social fabric of Yukon.

To support the exciting transformation to a university, the new, dynamic Vice President University Services is looking to recruit a strong, experienced finance professional to oversee the financial management of the College. With new funding formulas for the University, large capital project oversight, a new campus plan that includes a campus housing strategy and new program funding models in the University Services mandate the new Director, Finance must have the skills and abilities to lead process and system improvements that result in a highly efficient, automated finance department which will allow the team to focus on value added financial reporting and analyses. Core to the Director’s mandate will be budgeting, management reporting, treasury, risk management, auditing, capital project management, procurement and board and regulatory and government reporting.

The ideal candidate is a qualified accountant who has had a progressive career in the public sector where he/she has been recognized as a strong leader, coach and mentor who is able: to build capacity within a finance team; streamline and automate systems; enhance discipline related to internal and external reporting, procurement, capital project management and pension administration; and increase the level of value added support provided to the leadership team.
