Financial Awards

Students are at the heart of Yukon College and are an integral part of Yukon’s future. Our Financial Awards program can help you reach your educational goals. Yukon College and our generous donors understand the value of an education, so we supply a variety of awards to help you support your educational and living costs.

Awards can be based on academic or personal achievement, or financial need, along with other specialized criteria. All applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0.

How to apply

Whether you are applying for one or many awards, you need to fill out the following two documents only once:

  1. Student Financial Award Application
  2. Student Financial Award Application Waiver

Each award has additional application requirements and additional documents you need to submit. For instance, some require a Budget Sheet and some require a letter or essay. Please read the information carefully, and if you have any questions feel free to contact the Student Services Centre at 867.668.8720.

Aurora Geosciences Award: $1,000

As part of their commitment to Yukon and Yukoners, Aurora Geosciences would like to provide a $1,000 award to a Yukon student enrolled full-time in the Geological Technology diploma program.

To make things work North of 60, you need to know the land, and be ready for anything. The northern company with brains for rocks, Aurora Geosciences is the only company offering professional services in geology and geophysics that is both based in the North and operates across the North. With offices in Yellowknife, Whitehorse and Juneau, Aurora Geosciences delivers applied geosciences and exploration support services with northern savvy and innovative drive. Their client base covers companies and governments engaged in mineral exploration, oil and gas exploration, and engineering.

To apply, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Be registered full-time in either year of the Geological Technology Diploma program
  • Currently be an active community volunteer
  • Write a letter describing:
  • Your responsibilities as a community volunteer, including the date you began volunteering with the organization and hours volunteered (weekly, monthly, or total)
  • Your interest in and future plans with geology, including whether you plan to be involved in mineral exploration (500 words)
  • Any participation you may have with a sports team or arts association
