Northern Climate ExChange
Established in 2000, the Northern Climate ExChange (NCE) focuses on the study of climate change in Yukon by (1) promoting and coordinating research on impacts and adaptations, including risk and vulnerability assessments, (2) coordinating the exchange of scientific and local knowledge and expertise, and (3) providing mainstreaming and decision-making support, policy alternatives, and climate change education for a wide range of partners and audiences.
The mission of the Northern Climate ExChange is to provide a credible independent source of information, develop shared understanding, promote action and coordinate research on climate change in Yukon and across northern Canada.
Work carried out by the Northern Climate ExChange adheres to a number of guiding principles. The Northern Climate ExChange strives to:
- Recognize that community participation in research and decision-making is essential to long-term resource, environmental and cultural sustainability in the North;
- Realize opportunities that lie in strengthening links across northern Canada and among circumpolar nations through the exchange of knowledge and expertise; and
- Place appropriate emphasis on the collection of local and scientific knowledge and expertise in order to reflect northern perspectives, priorities and needs.
