How to Apply for Funding

Funding
The Yukon Research Centre provides funding opportunities for both researchers and innovators through a variety of funding programs.

Research Funding
YRC provides funding support for researchers through the Northern Research Endowment Fund and the Mining and Petroleum Environment Research Group (MPERG).

The Northern Research Endowment Fund was established in 1989 by the Government of Yukon to support "scholarly research in the humanities, social, pure, and applied sciences that is directly relevant to Yukon." While priority is given to resident researchers of Yukon, non-residents are awarded support provided the research will significantly involve the collaboration of Yukon residents.

The fund consists of $1 million endowment from which the YRC may disburse up to 50% of the earned interest in any one year; the other 50% must be reinvested in the principal.

The awards are designated as YRC Research Fellowships, which are awarded competitively. The applications are adjudicated by the YRC’s Advisory Board. Applications are due by Monday, March 19, 2012 and the research guidelines are available here.

MPERG funding promotes research into mining and environmental issues in the Yukon. Applications are due on Monday, March 26th, 2012 and the research guidelines are available here.

Innovator Funding
The Cold Climate Innovation (CCI) Fund supports the research, development and enhancement of applications and opportunities of innovative cold climate, and other technologies. The Fund provides seed money to help individuals and businesses establish partnerships and leverage funding from other sources for the development of innovative cold climate, and other, technology applications.

Applications for financial support from the Fund will initially be evaluated for eligibility by the CCI Director and supporting staff. All applications will be given an appropriate level of due diligence, and feedback will be provided to the Applicant. If eligible, CCI will work closely with the Applicant to develop a detailed project charter . The project charter will be reviewed by the CCI Review Committee and will serve as an appendix to the Contribution Agreement, signed by the Applicant and the CCI Director. The CCI Governing Council will be informed of all new projects at regular council meetings and will provide oversight, as it determines, to the process.
