GSTD 001: Gender & Workplace Issues
It is necessary to understand where one has been in order to modify where one is going. The process of socialization has had a great impact on the perceptions of both men and women about what is appropriate work for either gender. Exploring the effects of that socialization will help learners to identify and develop personal strategies for overcoming barriers they may encounter in the world of trades. It is essential to have knowledge of what it might be like to work in a predominantly male environment. This course will explore women's roles in society, their position in the labour force, help students recognize and adapt to workplace culture and analyse the local trades workplaces.
