Strategic Planning
Our Vision: Yukon College is a leader in education, rooted in our diverse cultures and northern environment, where everyone is inspired to dream, learn and achieve.
Our 2008-2013 Strategic Directions: - Building a community of learners - Leading with our strengths in research, programs and service - Working together with all Yukon communities - Working together with all First Nations - Building a vibrant and sustainable organization - Improving the identity of the College.
The last five years at the College have been significant in terms of change and growth – a new research centre, change in the Yukon College Act to allow granting of degrees, and new community campuses, to name a few. A foundation has been built for the next five years of growth. Yukon College is about to step into a different league and we thank for helping to guide this development.
Imagine the future - Creating a 2013-2018 Strategic Plan:
Phase One: A broad community consultation was conducted in the spring of 2012 under the leadership of the Yukon College Board of Governors to learn what people feel today about the College and how it should prepare for the future.
Over 420 people attended meetings and/or provided input through an on-line questionnaire. Public meetings were held in every community and twelve additional focus group meetings occurred in Whitehorse. Presentations were made to municipal leaders, school council members, business, Yukon Government and students. Members of the President’s Advisory Committee on First Nation Initiatives were also consulted. Seventy-five Yukon College staff and faculty participated in six separate sessions.
The results of these sessions are detailed in the Community Consultations 2012 report.
Phase Two: Your College Forum: Creating a New Direction
The forum included over 120 invited guests, some of whom took part in the phase one meetings. Guests spent the day exploring key directions that were identified in the community consultations and more deeply exploring possible goals.
To learn more about the Forum, read the Forum Workbook.
Next Steps: The Board of Governors will be meeting in early January to draft a strategic plan. This will be released to the public in early summer of 2013 to coincide with the College’s 50th Anniversary year!
This planning process has been designed to gather input and reach as wide an audience as possible. The College is committed to an open, transparent process for the development of this plan. Stay involved and continue to be part of the college community.
Mid-February Update - the strategic directions and goals have now been drafted. The College is now working on completing the plan and getting it prepared for public release, sometime this spring.
