Research Assistants - Northern Energy Innovation

Duties

• Collecting microgrid data through walking along powerlines
• Data collection of typical loads, generations, and demand profiles across several territorial microgrids through field trips
• Assist in creating electric power system models in a computer simulation and modelling environment
• Assisting in simulation and studies for remote microgrid applications
• Performing literature reviews, documentation, presentations, and reporting
• Working individually and/or with a team

Qualifications

• College student with a STEM background.
• Experience using AutoCAD and/or GIS software is considered an asset;
• Experience using a programming language such as MALTAB/Simulink, Python, or R is considered an asset.

The research assistant will work as part of the Industrial Research Chair program in Northern Energy Innovation to advance projects in renewable generation, energy storage, electric vehicle integration, diesel efficiencies, or demand-side management. The Research Assistant will work closely with senior staff to support applied research to understand technologies and create new and innovative practices that will enhance the future of the energy industry in the area of clean energy and sustainable technology in cold climates.
